Honest Burgers: “The Louisiana” Special

Posted on

Now, a bit random we know, but Honest Burgers have teamed up with HBO to come up with a new special this month, The Louisiana. It’s in honour of the new series of True Blood being available on DVD. We thought we would do a little write up on this one, as Honest are always doing bloody great specials (that change monthly), and they are always fantastic. This didn’t disappoint.

The Louisiana is comprised of a Cajun Blackened Patty, Bloody Mary Ketchup, Fried Onions, Beef Tomato and Blood Leaf, all washed down with a fantastic Bloody Mary. The thing we really liked about this burger (as well as the incredible rosemary chips they do there) is just how different it is. It’s really like nothing out there at the moment, as cajun really isn’t a flavour we would associate with burgers.

It really works. You get a smoky, spicy patty with a real depth of flavour which is all cleaned up by a juicy, tasty beef tomato (it’s not wet). You get a real kick from the onions and ketchup too which just adds another level to the burger. It works so well, it won’t be long before we head back there!

It costs £10 (including the rosemary fries) and it is on special until 17th June so  if you want to try something different and delicious, GIVE IT A GO. Let us know what you guys think.

Intro

Kia Ora guys. I’m (Andy) back from the land of the long white cloud, and needless to say I am ravenous. I have to give honorary mention to Fergburger in Queenstown, everyone knows about it, but that’s a damn fine burger!

Kettners was next on our list, a couple of our mates had told us it was pretty decent, so let’s see if they have a f***ing clue what they’re talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a burger with a background pianist. Classaffair.

Intro

Street Kitchen have just opened up their third site in Shoreditch (check out their website to see other sites (and times!)). We were long overdue to visit these guys for a review as we had heard amazing things about all their food. The Shoreditch Airstream is based next door to the Tesco, opposite Pizza East, and only a stones throw from Shoreditch High Street station. It’s in a giant red tent (kind of) with a few other great street food stands keeping them company. Don’t worry, there are heaters!

We had a great chat with Nad, who has worked for Street Kitchen since inception, and you can tell he has so much passion for what he does.. But is this shown through the quality of food? Read on to find out

They often call Fouberts Place just off Carnaby street the Hawaii of Oxford Circus. Honestly, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because of this Hawaiian themed burger joint? Or maybe I just made it up. Who knows? Hawaii themed bingo ensues: the shirts (check), surfboard (check), lei (check), ukele (check)….

Disco Bistro

Intro

After a slight hiatus, and an underwhelming last attempt, the Disco Bistro residency at the Rising Sun was next up for a burger review. Absence makes the heart grow fonder an’ all that, so we were raring to go. It’s basically next to St. Pauls, so the fact we were smashing burgers on the first day of lent shows you what religion we follow. So much history, you could almost imagine St. Paul himself popping round the corner to get stuck into a cheeky burger here.
